KIRKCALDY CIVIC SOCIETY

At 2pm on Sunday 20th June 2010 KCS held the annual barbeque in the grounds of historic Ravenscraig Castle.

It was a beautiful sunny day.

The society recently purchased
a gazebo and it made its first appearance at the event. In the past we have had to borrow a gazebo from another group.

Our drummer led  'King James II' and his ‘Queen’ down the path to the castle and into the grounds where they were greeted by Mrs Ann Watters.

The King made a speech and then went on a ‘walkabout’ to meet people who had come to the event.

The King performed ‘knightings’ and gave guided tours of the castle throughout the afternoon. During the tours he took people into rooms normally locked to the public.

Medieval Methil entertained the crowd with exciting displays, storytelling etc.

They also had craft stalls where people could chat about the items on show and see how things were made long ago.

A raffle was held at the end of the event and the vote of thanks given.

It is through having an event such as the bbq that KCS hope to encourage an interest in the castle, its history and preservation.

We hope that everyone who attended had a great time and will return next year!
