The Laird of Balgonie met a group of around 40 KCS members in the courtyard of the Castle on a very rainy Wednesday evening. |
After telling us about the grounds and the exterior of the building we were taken inside to see the Chapel. Many couples, both local and from around the world, have been married in the atmospheric surroundings of the Chapel. Lady Balgonie joined us for tea and biscuits in the candle-lit Great Hall with its beautifully painted Minstrel's Gallery. The Laird told us about the Heraldic flags, a tapestry and other items in the hall. As we headed for the castles enormous living room we admired the painted ceilings and panels on the way. A fire crackled in the huge fireplace as we were told about the many artifacts in the room. The Laird and his son expertly answered our questions about the castle and its history. |

Mary Queen of Scots spent the night at Balgonie Castle before journeying to Wemyss Castle where she would meet her husband to be, Darnley, for the first time. Another famous visitor to Balgonie Castle was Daniel Defoe, author of 'Robinson Crusoe'. He also visited Kirkcaldy. |

The Laird and his family are the first people to
live in Balgonie for 160 years.
It is their intention to restore the remainder of the Castle back to its former glory. |
| Mr Galloway gave the Vote of Thanks and an enthusiastic applause was given to the Laird and his family for a fascinating and enjoyable evening. |
